Hey All,

Well I had an excellent time away over the long weekend, we stayed in some great townhouse style units at Yallingup, right on the beach. I got up for dawn, 2 days in a row.. something of a record for me, but it was well worth it! Saturday morning was one of the most amazing sunrises that I have ever seen. There has been a lot of burning off in the area, so the skies have been smokey, this added a great red and orange hue to the sunrise and sunsets. We headed to Eagle Bay to capture the sunrise over the ocean and the rocks, here is one of my favorite shots from the morning:

On Sunday there was a lot of cloud cover and rain, this made for a fairly boring sunrise, so we headed over to the west coast to Sugar Loaf Rock, it was well worth the trip, as I got some amazing long exposure shots there, this is my pick of the bunch so far, with a few more to come soon:

I’ve got quite a few more photos to go through, so I’ll be posting up some shots from this trip for the next couple of weeks most likely. I head off for Adelaide early Thursday morning and I intend to do some exploring while I’m there, I’m hoping to get to a few places in particular, just depends on how much time I have.

In other news.. I’m still updating my website, the new basic layout is now in place (as you may well have noticed), so now I’m just working on a few flash galleries and slideshows as well as a few other minor widgets and adjustments. I’d love to hear people’s feedback on the new layout and if you find any bugs.. please let me know!

Regards

Hey All,

Well the first amazing news is that I have not only been featured in the next edition of Photo Review Australia magazine, I have also had my work Approaching Storm used as the cover image of the magazine!

Approaching Storm - Fine Art Photography by Paul Pichugin

I’ll post up a PDF version of the interview as soon as I get a copy for myself :-)

In other news, I’ve got a few trips planned over the coming months, this weekend we’re heading to Dunesborough.. it’s near Busselton, Western Australia. Next weekend I’m in Adelaide, South Australia. I’m planning a trip away for a weekend in July, but I haven’t decided where yet. In August I have 2 trips to Brisbane and a trip to Geraldton planned already, with various other trips around the place in between.

Then in December, Bec and I are planning to go to Phuket for our wedding anniversary.. I’m hoping to take lots of awesome diving / snorkeling photos and some landscape photos of the amazing islands around Thailand!

Website Upgrade.. I’ve got a new wordpress theme nearly completed in Photoshop, it will be getting coded up in the next couple of days and the website should look a whole heap better with in the next week.. adding to the site will be an online shopping cart system so that you can buy cards, prints, framed prints etc all directly from my website!

For now if you want to browse through all of my Fine Art Photography, please go to my RedBubble site, where you can buy prints as well. http://www.redbubble.com/people/paulmp/art

That’s all for now, I’ll have further updates and new photos as I take them!

Sorry for the delay between posts, it’s been a really busy time.. I’ve made a few trips around the place, with a few more coming up too. This weekend I’m heading down to Dunesborough again, hoping to get some good dawn and dusk photos.. I’m also contemplating breaking out the underwater gear for some crystal clear, freezing water photos. Next weekend I’m off to Adelaide for a wedding, it’s in the Adelaide hills which should be really nice.

A recent trip to Dunesborough, Denmark and Green’s Pool resulted in these photos:

I’ll have some more photos up soon. Remember you can order prints for any of the photos shown on this blog! Just click on the photos and it will take you through to the ordering process.

Hey All,

I’ve entered the Jetstar Photo comp, please vote for me! http://www.jetstarphotocomp.com/#/gallery/?id=1662c77c-0c1b-4017-94b2-9bfd0044d3d7

Bec and I spent a couple of days exploring the South West Corner of Western Australia just recently, I’ll have some photos up from Quindalup at dawn and Greens Pool at Dusk.. along with some photos of various areas in between. I went snorkeling in Greens Pool and took quite a few photos, I’ll put some up here too. I wouldn’t recomend snorkeling in Greens Pool this time of year though.. it was absolutely freezing. Definitely a summertime only swimming spot.

The website is still in the process of getting upgraded, I’ve just got to add a gallery and then I’m going to work on a shopping cart system so you can buy my art and calendars directly from me, rather than a third party site.

Anyway, all comments, ideas and suggestions appreciated.

Regards

Paul

Here’s the second part of the photo post..

Monday: We started in Mildura, Victoria and crossed the border into Renmark, South Australia.. we had a quick stop in Renmark for some photos:

We also set the camera up on the tripod for a quick portrait in the park.. I’m quite happy with the results.. I’d love to shoot a wedding here in Renmark.

Sorry, this photo isn’t for sale.. I know.. mass disappointment for all those who wanted their own print.. lol.

After picking up some fresh fruit in Renmark we headed off to Tailum Bend to cross the Murray River on a ferry, we continued south from here, taking photos here and there.

We followed the road through to Strathalbyn and then in to Goolwa where we stayed with family for a couple of days.. Goolwa is about 15 minutes away from Victor Harbour.. so I spent some time with Bec exploring the area and taking heaps of photos.. here are the photos from our exploring:

A personal favorite:

We left Goolwa early this morning and after a visit with my grandmothers (both of them) in Adelaide we headed out to Burra where we are currently staying. I explored the area and got some great photos.. I’m hoping to get them up on the web in the next couple of days.. depends on internet access.. I’m basically on dial up speed at the moment.. which is killing me.

Regards

Hey All,

Well Bec and I have had a very busy week now.. We’ve been traveling all over the place and have had very little internet connection (must get one of those Telstra NextG USB things I think.. better than my current “3″ connection).. which is why there has been a delay between my last post and this post. So today while we were in Adelaide we stopped into a internet cafe to chew some bandwidth and upload a stack of photos..

In other news.. I have been nominated (thank you to those who nominated me) for the Australia’s Top Photographer 2009 awards in 4 different categories:

http://www.yaffa.com.au/atp/nom09_art.html – ART
http://www.yaffa.com.au/atp/nom09_land.html – LANDSCAPE
http://www.yaffa.com.au/atp/nom09_wed.html – WEDDING
http://www.yaffa.com.au/atp/nom09_port.html – PORTRAIT

Fingers crossed I guess.. I’m in amongst the greats like Peter Lik, Ken Duncan, Marcus Bell, Yervant, Rob Heymen and Rocco.. it’s truely humbling to be amongst such awesome photographers. Voting finishes on March 6.

Anyway.. on to much more interesting things now.. the photos.. I’ve got a mixture of photos that are for sale and those that are just up on this blog.

Saturday: Bec and I left Lismore around 5:30am, heading towards Tenterfield to meet up with my parents for the migration south.. Seeing as we were up so early, we had the dubious pleasure of watching the sunrise while we drove.. something I’m not overly keen on.. because I’m not really a morning person if I can avoid it.

It was a rather foggy morning, Bec took some photos with my little Canon G9 while we were driving. I’ve got to say.. it’s one of the best point and shoot cameras I’ve ever bought.. I love it.

Not too bad considering Bec’s only real photography experience has been what I’ve taught her.. and considering that we were doing 100kph at the time.

We arrived in Tenterfield with no incidents and met up with the parents and had some breakfast. The trip through the day was fairly uneventful not too many photos were taken through out the day.. with the exception of a few tourist snaps and photos of a garden gnome we stole from a friends place…

After a very healthy dinner of red rooster in Dubbo, we carried on to the iconic town of Parkes.. home of The Dish. We stayed overnight in Parkes.

Sunday: We woke in Parkes Sunday morning and decided to go to The Dish Cafe for breakfast.. well that turned out to be a big mistake.. first they stuffed our order up completely.. we had to repeat it 5 times (how hard is it to get a “bigbreakfast with no tomato”), then they over charged us for it.. an hour and 20 minutes after ordering we still had no breakfast.. they had completely forgotten us! We ended up going to Maccas in Forbbes for breakfast after getting a refund.. a real disappointment indeed.

Anyway, after a bit of a disappointing start to the day we carried on and got some great photos as we crossed the very appropriately named Hay Plains.. all you see is Hay for over 2 hours.. very plain indeed.. but kind of cool in it’s own way as well.. there’s not too many places where you can see “absolutely nothing”.

The day ended in Mildura, Victoria with a few photos on the river:

I’ll be putting a stack more photos up on the blog in another post really shortly! I’ve got some great photos from Victor Harbour.

Regards

Hey All,

For various reasons, Bec and I have decided to move to Perth, Western Australia.. I know.. not a small move by any stretch of the imagination.. 5200kms worth of road between us and Perth.. and we’re going to be driving everyone of them! We’re doing a road trip from Brisbane to Perth and the route we will be taking will go something like this:

Brisbane – Gold Coast – Lismore: On our way south to Lismore we are going to go via Springbrook and hopefully get some good shots.. we’ve had a lot of rain lately so the waterfalls should be flowing. Stop for a few days to visit with Bec’s parents in Lismore, we want to hang out with them for a while before I steal their daughter to the other side of the country. I’m hoping to get some good photos of a few of the local waterfalls while we are there.. and I’ve got a few other long exposure shots in mind too.

Lismore – Casino – Tenterfield (the one from the song) and on to Armidale.. In Armidale we meet up with My parents, from there we are aiming to get to West Wyalong, NSW by early nightfall.. For this journey we go via Coonabarrabran, Dubbo, Parkes (the home of The Dish) and Forbes. I’m hoping to get some photos of the desert and plains in the area.

West Wyalong – Mildura, Vic here we cross the NSW border into Victoria and will probably spend some time in Mildura..

Mildura – Renmark – Adelaide – Goolwa (SA) We’re stopping for a few days in Goolwa to stretch our legs, visit family and relax for a bit.. then we head back into Adelaide for some more visiting of family..

I’ll be posting along they way as I can (depends on internet coverage) and I’ll try putting up some photos too!

Regards
